A thousand cranes for Peace

Our wish is Peace

The project “A thousand cranes for Peace” tries to sensitize the population to the concept of peace and its necessity to build daily and all together a more just and interdependent world, with more opportunities for everyone.

The activity consists in folding every year at least a thousand cranes, and to install them in a public space. It is the combination of an annual work realized in origami workshops in schools, homes for elderly people, etc. and the ancient Japanese legend that says that whoever can fold a thousand cranes deserves to see his biggest wish fulfilled.

This action was realized for the first time in Hiroshima (Japan) by one of the victims of the first atomic bomb used in World War II.

The aim is, through this original and aesthetic form, to draw attention on peace, and to motivate people to participate actively in this campaign, committing themselves personally in their daily life.

This event takes place every 6th of August, on the occasion of the commemoration of the first atomic bomb that touched a civil population in Hiroshima (Japan). It is a more than opportune moment to think about this fateful beginning of the chain of violence, and the way we reproduce it in our daily life.
